Why Genuine Mazda Cargo Trays Are Special and What to Look for
A cargo tray or mat is the ultimate insurance policy against the inevitable coffee spill or damp gym bag. Whether you call it a cargo liner or a tray, having a waterproof, custom-fit barrier in your cargo area pays for itself the first time you have to transport anything messy.
How to Not Get Cheated When Buying Cargo Liners and Trays for Your Mazda Miata
The Mazda Miata is the definition of "less is more," but that doesn't mean you want to treat its tiny trunk with less respect. Use the following buyer's guide:
1. Verify Your Model Year
The trunk dimensions for the ND (2016+) Miata are different from the NC. Always use your VIN to get the exact fit.
2. Prioritize All-Weather Materials
Even if you live in a dry climate, an all-weather mat is superior for carrying wet gear or groceries that might leak.
3. Check for Multi-Piece Designs
Some larger Mazda models offer a split tray that allows you to fold the seats. For the Miata, a single-piece tray is best.
4. Avoid "Universal" Cut-Outs
If a mat requires you to take a pair of scissors to it, it isn't a premium part. Stick with a molded OEM tray.
5. Look for the Mazda Logo
Genuine trays often feature the Mazda logo, which helps confirm the part's authenticity.
